In Nothing But Trouble, Jim Stevenson has once again demonstrated his skill as a storyteller. The reader can never be sure about who was involved in the death or even if it was an accident or a gruesome murder. The characters are well drawn and thoroughly believable, and as ever, will leave you guessing right until the end.
The body was that of a girl. She was dead and it did not look like it had been a suicide. For Detectives David manners and Peter Lee there was precious little to go on. The fact that the body proved to belong to the least popular person in the country made no difference; an unexplained death had to be investigated.
The paperback edition is available at all good bookshops.
Richard and Mary Fleming, an elderly couple are attacked by three muggers, one of whom is himself injured in the attack. In hospital, he remains totally uncooperative and aggressive until one evening he is visited by a mysterious surgeon. Shortly after he suffers a massive heart attack. Is this coincidence or just murder?
Later on one of his accomplices is killed in circumstances which cause the police to suspect that revenge is the motive. Evidence is found which points to the third attacker, who has a history of violence and drug dealing. Is he the killer trying to protect his identity, or is he too at risk?
The police investigation takes them from the drug scene to the gay community where alibis and motives become confusingly entwined.
The paperback edition is available at Amazon, all good bookshops, and also as an e-book.
Jim Stevenson was educated at Ealing County Grammar School, and at TS Mercy, a private Naval Training School.
He served in the Royal Navy for ten years, after which he spent the rest of his working life in the avionics industry. Over the years he has produced a number of booklets, mostly autobiographical, for the amusement of his family. During his time as Assistant Leader of his local Methodist Youth Group, he wrote and stage-managed three 'Musical Comedy' plays. These were highly acclaimed, especially
scenes such as the dancing skeleton with its top and bottom going their separate ways; dragon fights, cavorting horses and ancient fairies, not to mention the incompetent Magician constantly upstaged by his apprentice.
Now in his 90s, No Consolation is his first published novel.
